Blank Mind have an impressive dedication to the outer reaches of dance music, particularly mining the UK tradition. Their releases can also be oddly prescient – this gem from 2012 prefigured the current trend of splicing breakbeats into dreamy house forms.
Dance’s Ha is simple, its slo-mo break ricocheting over a delicate lattice of aquatic synthwork. Considering that jungle’s breakbeats were born from sped-up hip hop, it’s strange that when they’re slowed back down they sound eerie and unfamiliar. Still plays in these liminal spaces, dreamy yet unsettling, familiar yet dangerous.
