Today we’re digging up a red-hot slice of funk from back in ’82. Nightwind were a popular St. Louis session band at the beginning of the decade, releasing a couple of 7″ singles on Star City Records before slipping back into the ether. Luckily for us, in 2011 new label Sound Boutique Records dusted off a pair of stellar tracks for reissue.
Later For That is the star of the show, resting on an unstoppable bassline and supple guitar licks. The simplicity of the arrangement belies the skill of these musicians, while an age-old tale of love, loss and lust is played out through a cool vocal performance. Ultimately though this track lives and dies by its bassline, and that beast can’t be beat.
