Tyree Cooper is a true veteran of the Chicago house scene, responsible for some of the genre’s key anthems, the short-lived ‘hip house’ wave and a slew of gritty gold for Dance Mania. While many of his best tracks are heavy on euphoria, it’s his subtler material that sounds the most strikingly contemporary.
Nuthin Wrong is rightly remembered as one of Tyree’s best, its stripped construction still bringing a strong look to dancefloors to this day. The drumtrack is bare bones, with a simple kick adorned by bone-dry snares and flurries of claps. The staccato bassline is oddly menacing and those ambiguous vocals are subtly looped, proof that the starkest arrangements sometimes pack the hardest punch.
