Since putting his name on the map with a trio of slow-burning releases in 2009, Paul Cottam has been as consistent as they come. He’s dabbled in acid and techier affairs over the years, but it’s the hypnotizing funk and soul edits that keep us coming back. Among these, the B-side of his second EP stands above the rest.

A ten minute journey of highlife horns, funky strings and aquatic bass, this re-work of Bola Johnson’s “Lagos Sisi” builds the groove for a solid 3 minutes before unleashing the earworm vocal sample. It may seem a simple progression to highlight the strings and vocal sections in turn, but the end product is alluring enough to get you on the dance floor and entrancing enough to keep you there.
